Welcome to The Rough Riders project,
This project was created as a fundraising event to raise money for Bristol Children's Hospital.
This event involved preparing and shipping a vehicle to South Africa from where myself and a college would then drive to Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania to climb the summit 5,895 metres (19,341 ft) for charity. This journey would total 4,000 miles and 6 weeks on the road through South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania and finally Kenya where the vehicle could be shipped back the UK.
The Logo used to promote the event was inspired by classic World Rally Championship event decals. This was done to illustrate the heavily automotive aspect of the project and as an exciting multi-stage type route.
Route planning and logistics were worked in tandem with logo design and creating promotional materials which were sent to businesses for potential event sponsorship. Platform events such as radio and public events allowed even greater exposure.
Travel arrangements, vehicle shipping and driving permits were then completed.
A vehicle was chosen, a Mitsubishi Shogun Sport 2.5 TD 2005. A efficient and familiar chassis for the group.
Suspension, Brakes, Cooling, Hoses, Batteries, Lights, Wheels & Tyres & Fluids were all specified and installed by the The Rough Rider group.
Rear storage was created in CAD using SolidWorks and built into the vehicle using the design.
Further promotional events and fundraising were organised up until the vehicle was completed and shipped to South Africa ready for the event itself.
